One Month Old

Just four Mondays ago we were getting ready to meet our little girls! We are starting to feel more confident about our instincts and ability to take the girls out in public without major meltdowns. We went to church for the first time on Sunday...we were about 25 minutes late...the girls just weren't interested in hurrying up their morning meal! We won't have as much wiggle room next Sunday since the girls are being baptized at the beginning of the service!!!

And one last picture of a very tired but happy dad!

Splish Splash

So we are not sleeping well once again, but we are rather fond of napping! Everyone says that babies sleep better as they get even a few weeks older...we keep holding out that they will be old enough to sleep better tomorrow or the next day. It is too hard to wrap our heads around the fact that it may be a few months before this happens! One day at a time...

We did have a fun first with Addison today. Her belly button remnant has fallen off, so she got her first real bath today. It was amazing for a little girl who screams bloody murder when she's striped to have her diaper changed or new outfit put on - she was positively mellow in the bath...perhaps even enjoyed it! Jasmine is still waiting to have her first bath - her belly button is being a bit more stubborn. Hopefully she'll enjoy the experience just as much as her sister when the time comes.

Thank you ladies!

Last night was our first good night in a long long time! The girls still woke to eat every three hours, but they also both agreed to go back to sleep after each feeding. This means that we got three blocks of 2-3 hours of sleep - and we are both feeling a bit more like normal people. It is 9:30 a.m. and I'm actually showered, hair fixed, some make-up on, and am wearing clean clothes!!! It is amazing how thankful you can feel for the little things! Yesterday at this time, I had already crashed back to bed still in the clothes I slept in (and wore until 5 pm). I hope this creates a new nightly trend. If not, at least we got one refreshing night that will hopefully sustain us to this weekend.

On another note, keep Alex's brother & fiance in your prayers. He was meant to be arriving in Canada to join Dariel after being apart for months finishing his commitment to the British army. He was told today that his visa to Canada has been refused - so as of right now he cannot join Dariel - and they are concerned that they won't be able sort it out by their wedding scheduled for September. Hang in there guys! We love you!

The big 40

So, we've all heard the stories about women who have gone out in public after having their baby and have a stranger ask them when they are due...I've lived that story several times now! I, however, have not felt like it made me want to cry (yet).

Today was very reassuring. I went for my two week check-up with my OB to make sure my stitches were healing fine. They weighed me while I was there - and I've already lost forty of the sixty pounds I gained during my pregnancy. That is a forty pound weight loss in two weeks! With screaming infants and sleep deprivation, a girl has got to find some small things to celebrate each day to keep going. The loss of forty pounds in two weeks is going to tide me over on the things to celebrate for quite some time!

Otherwise, the girls are doing well! Jasmine continues to want to be up all night - while Addison sleeps peacefully in her bassinet! Argh!!! I've been told this eventually irons itself out - hopefully sooner rather than later for her parents sake!

My Hot New Lover

The stress of motherhood has been too much - I've traded the old husband in for this new version!

Okay...so it is still Alex - but a new Alex with his new glasses! I love his new look - he's loving being able things like blades of grasses, tree branches, and not just blobs of color!

The girls continue to do well - now if we could just master helping them understand the difference between day and night. Last night was the first time they both were crying and Alex and I were both required in order to maintain the peace.

As I speak - they have begun to cry - time to eat I suppose!

At Home

Hi all! Here are some pictures from the girls' first week home. It has been a rollercoaster ride of doctors' appointments, nursing, sleeping, eating, and recovering. The first hiccup in the twins' health was jaundice.

Addison did not need further care, but Jasmine's levels got up to 17 and required her to spend most of her time in a UV bed called a Bili bed. She wasn't too keen on the idea at first since it required her to be striped bare except her diaper and lying on a hard surface - but thanks to Grandma Baker - who though of playing a ocean sounds CD - that soothed her and perhaps reminded her of the womb.

Jasmine is now clear of her special bed and on to growing. She is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday to have her phernulum (spelling?) clipped - it is the tissue that connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth.

Addison herself hasn't been free either from some additional poking and prodding. She had her second EKG today. The doctor detected some irregular heart activity on Sunday and ordered the first EKG. It was determined then that all looked normal - normal for a newborn that is. Then we went back today for a check-up on her heartbeat and the doctor got super concerned and called a pediatric cardiologist and we rushed over for an impromptu appointment. Alex and I were feeling very overwhelmed on the car ride over. Addison's second EKG was once again normal. The doctor, Dr. Tong, was wonderful! He was very friend and reassuring. He even showed us how to count Addison's heart rate at home - just to reduce our anxiety - although he didn't think anything was wrong!

And here's one last picture for you - the girls' first trip out of our house after coming home from the hosipital. For those of you who thought that we were tardy before...we've discovered babies multiply that by four! We don't even consider showering part of the natural order of the day - it has come down to deciding we can't stand ourselves another second and have to squeeze in time to bathe!

Hopefully tomorrow will be a less eventful day! Alex returns to work tomorrow and I will miss him terribly - but am enormously grateful that my mother-in-law will be here for another four and a half weeks to help. Please know that we are getting all of you phone calls, e-mails, and cards - even if we can't find time to respond! Thanks so much for all your well wishes and support.

The first day of the rest of our lives...

So our sweet girls have finally arrived, and they are gorgeous! Addison arrived first, and weighed in at 6 lb 11 oz! Her sister, Jasmine, follwed shortly thereafter and came in at a whopping 7 lb 12 oz! As you can see from the pics, Addison is the blondie and Jasmine has a full head of dark hair. So, without further ado, here they are...

Fresh from the oven!

Now we know why Miriam was so hungry all the time!
