Ultrasound #3

We had our third ultrasound on Wednesday and the girls are growinggggg! They have each gained over a pound in the last month. Everything else was looking good. They heartbeats were in the normal range - all body parts were accounted for! : ) As of this Sunday we will be 26 weeks. We will have to wait for another two weeks to get the official interpretation of the ultrasound from the doctor...you can only squeeze so much information out of the ultrasound tech...since they aren't really suppose to tell you anything!

Otherwise, all else is well. Tinsley is back to her frisky self - but still isn't using the leg she had the operation on! The vet says this is normal in small dogs who can move quite well with just three legs. He said it may take several weeks for her to figure out that using that leg won't hurt her anymore. So for now she is still a tripod.

Springfield is still a bit of a disaster since the ice storm. Trees are down in mass everywhere - and you can't go too far without see one leaning on electric wires or electric wires laying across the street after being knocked down by a tree! We have some significant clean up to do from the tree limbs that have fallen in our front yard. Many people are still without power and are huddling by their gas/wood fireplaces. Apparently, to add to the madness, we are forecasted to get between 3-8" of snow this weekend!

25 weeks

Ice Ice Baby

We are under inches and inches of ice! Right now we are undergoing Round #3 of freezing rain. 75,000 residents of Springfield do not have power and nearly 200,000 in the outlying towns are also without electricity! We are some of the fortunate ones who have kept our power so far. I'm a little nervous that we will lose it some time this evening - we are getting the worst round of freezing rain right now.

If you stand outside - you can hear a tree branch break off or a power line explode every 30 seconds. The news is predicting that it is going to take several days after the rain stops to restore power to everyone! Could be a cold week! Some trees just are not cut out to carry extra weight - they have split down the middle and look like someone stepped on them. Our only loss so far has been cable television...not so bad a loss considering!

Another special development is that Tinsley (our smaller dog) has decided that she is too delicate to go outside into the freezing rain to relieve herself. She instead has reverted to relieving herself in the back bedrooms! She is now under house arrest attached to a leash at my side!

Micah and Amanda Steiner

Here's a picture of the newly married Steiners from December 30th, 2006 in Denver, Colorado. The massive snowfall that threatened their special day made a beautiful backdrop for this picture. Congratulations you two!

Babies' Update

So I hit the big 200 on the mark at my doctor's visit on Friday! I'm trying to decide what would be more fun...guess the girls' birthday or my final weight?! : ) My doctor says that all is looking good. We heard both heartbeats again and they were in the normal range. Next month I go for my gestational diabetes test - apparently I have to drink something the equivalent of Sprite in 5 minutes and then wait an hour and have my blood drawn. In two weeks, we will have our next ultrasound. I'm interested to see what position they are now in. It is hard to tell since I feel movement all over the place pretty much all the time!

One memorable experience was when Alex and I went to register for baby stuff at Target. I'll warn you now...it is not like registering for your wedding. We realized we knew virtually NOTHING about baby stuff. Other than choosing colors and shapes we liked...we had no idea! Thankfully some experienced friends have gone over our registry and helped us edit out a lot of unnecessary items and add some essentials we missed.

Do not worry

Matthew 6:25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

We found these verses to be especially poignant this week! For those of you who don't know, our dog, Tinsley had surgery yesterday on her leg. She has a luxating patella (which basically means her kneecap pops out of place leaving her leg only held together by ligaments). If she were to tear those ligaments - she would be lame in that leg...thus surgery. We were told that it would cost between $600-900. I must admit I started crying on the phone as the vet was telling me all of this - call it being overwhelmed with the financial aspect of our lives (trying to sell the house, preparing for the twins. cutting back on hours at work, etc.) and perhaps a bit of pregnancy hormones. We don't have $100 extra let alone $600-900! Little did we know - God had already provided!

In December, when we got all the ice and snow, a lady slide into Alex while he was driving my car. The accident resulted in a small ding in my bumper and a slight scratch on the rear right side - the car inspector estimated the damage and sent us a check. We did not plan on repairing the damage since we ascribe to the "drive it till it dies" car club and don't really care if it is aesthically perfect. We had big plans for the insurance $$$ - perhaps a freezer, some baby stuff, etc. Little did we know that the check wasn't for us, but for Tinsley - the check arrived and it was for $674. Yesterday we were able to pay for her surgery in cash - it cost $680. Praise God! Makes me think - not only is God a great comforter, provider, protecter...He sure is gosh darn creative too!

It was definitely the booster shot we needed to remember that God is with us - providing for us as we enter the scary world of being parents. We are just excited/curious to see how He will provide next! First the house fire, now this! : )
